VBALink Pokemon Fire Red to Leaf Green Communication Error

So I tried to use VBALink to connect FireRed to Leaf Green (2 instances on PC) and it works until the characters walk into the room and then I get

Communication error...
Please check all connections,
then turn the power OFF and ON.

How to fix?
